City Holds Eid al-Adha Prayer Amid of Pandemic, Reflection on the Toughness of Prophet Ibrahim Family

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan together with Jakarta Vice Governor, Ahmad Riza Patria (Ariza) and Jakarta Council (DPRD) Vice Chairman, Abdurrahman Suhaimi conducted Eid al-Adha 1441 Hijri prayer according to health protocols at Fatahillah Mosque, Jakarta City Hall, on Friday (7/13).

Today, I remind all of you to follow health protocols as well as possible

In this year's Eid al-Adha, Anies recalled Prophet Ibrahim (as) family's toughness that should be emulated by families in the current pandemic situation.

"The exemplary family, the obedience of child Ismail (as), piety of Ibrahim (as), and sincerity of mother Siti Hajar. The stories and examples of these three persons are repeated continuously. It is an opportunity for us, families, to emulate how much the trials experienced by Ibrahim (as) and his family, as well as our families today that experiencing trials," he said as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.

After the prayer, he and Ariza handed over one cow each as sacrificial animals (qurban) that will be slaughtered at PD. Dharma Jaya Slaughterhouse.

"We hand over cow with weight 1.3 tons and cow from Vice Governor with weight 1 ton which will be slaughtered at Dharma Jaya," he mentioned.

Furthermore, he also appreciated the committee who make Eid al-Adha events running well according to health protocols.

"When we wear mask, wash hands often, and maintain distance with others, it means we take the responsibility. I want to thank everyone involved in this event. Today, I remind all of you to follow health protocols as well as possible," he conveyed.

In this chance, he told the difference between this year's Eid al-Adha which carried out without meeting with big families at home, or even gathering with family at home. In order to prevent COVID-19 transmission, he didn't invite his family to watch sacrificial animals slaughtering.

He will continue to monitor several qurban slaughtering locations to ensure the implementation is in accordance with Sharia and health protocols, as well as environmentally friendly in distributing the meat.

"Hopefully God accept our sacrifice, and Insya Allah, it can be a blessing for our brothers and sisters who will enjoy the meat today," he closed.
