Batik Marunda Displayed at Jakarta Fashion Week 2020

Tens Batik Marunda collections are displayed in Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2020 at Senayan City with theme of 'Membatik untuk Jakarta'. Those collections are made by housewives who live at Marunda Public Housing and Rawa Bebek Public Housing.

"Some of them are the old collections. But there are 6 newest batik collections in form of shawl made by housewives at Marunda and Rawa Bebek Public Housings," explained Irma G. Sinurat, Marunda Batik Teacher on the location, Thursday (10/24).
In this event, Batik Marunda is not only worn by the models, but also 10 DKI Jakarta Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) members. They wore batik with different patterns, such as clam, jellyfish, urban view of Jakarta, multi-storey buildings, and Pedestrian Bridge (JPO).

According to her, it is the first time Batik Marunda displayed in single show of JFW.
"Last year, we have joined JFW. But, this year we join with Dekranasda and this is the single show," he mentioned.
At
the same location, Jakarta Dekranasda Head, Fery Farhati Ganis admitted that she is proud of Batik Marunda craftsmen for their amazing work which have the same level as JFW."Its design is very attractive and surely they can compete with other designers. It is a part of women empowerment in public housing. This batik brings positive impacts for many people," she expressed.
She affirmed that her side will continue to support and facilitate craftsmen in Jakarta, including Batik Marunda craftsmen thus they can be more successful.
"Alhamdulillah, they get appreciation from all sides because their designs are great and classy. It is also part of our plan to promote craftsmen in Jakarta. Hopefully other craftsmen can follow their path," she conveyed.
One of Batik Marunda craftsmen, Khadijah (38) was seen very happy because her design can be displayed at prestigious events like JFW.
"I never thought to be in here. I am very happy that Batik Marunda product can be more advanced and more well-know in public," she expressed.
