The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that rainfall will not happen as the last few days. Therefore, Jakarta Provincial Government decided not to set alert status to emergency response in the capital.
BMKG Head, Andi Eka Sakya disclosed decrease in the prolonged rain in the next few days is triggered by tropical cyclones or tropical storms in the region of the Australian continent that has begun to decrease. It is automatically causing rainfall reduced. Besides Jakarta, similar thing also happens in almost all over Indonesia.
“On January 22-24, rainfall will began to decrease. Especially in Jakarta, we see Inter-tropical convergent zone. Hopefully, tropical storms in Australia is ended, so I think rainfall will be reduced,” he told, Monday (1/20).
Despite rain in the afternoon will still pouring Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Tangerang, yet its intensity is predicted to be lower than the last few days. “It is just sporadic, but not happen in all regions. Its pressure is also not as big as we imagine as the previous days,” he expressed.
Because of the intensity and rainfall continues to decrease, he added, Jakarta government does not need to set the status of the emergency response. “In this context, BMKG always gives the latest information in five days ahead. And we also announce to the public," he explained.
On Sunday (1/19), Jakarta government represented by Plt of City Secretary, Wiriyatmoko and Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Social Department, and Health Department, and Disaster Response Agency (Tagana) held a meeting on a status change from alert to emergency response. Its result then proposed to Jakarta Governor, Joko Widodo.
