Jakarta Education Agency (Disdik) gave explanation regarding New Students Enrollment (PPDB) for School Year 2020/2021, including student selection policy based on age for Prospective New Students (PPDB).
This criteria is considered a better way to accommodate CPDB from all levels of society,
Jakarta Disdik Head, Nahdiana conveyed, in PPDB 2020/2021, Jakarta Government provides equal opportunity to all levels of society.
"Based on the evaluation and study of PPDB which implemented using age as selection criteria, this criteria is considered a better way to accommodate CPDB from all levels of society," she explained during the Press Release at Jakarta Education Agency Office, on Jalan Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta, Friday (6/26).
Commission E Discusses PPDB Zonation PathwaysShe explained, Education and Culture Ministry Regulation (Permendikbud) No. 44/2019 regulates that CPDB in each levels should meet the minimal age as the requirement to be enrolled in school. Besides, the minimum age criteria for CPDB was set due to school capacity.
"It is related to school capacity. For example, a school has capacity of 200 students. So, not only based on the distance (zone), we also sort the students based on the age. It means, student with sequence number 201 will not be accepted," she asserted.
According to her, PPDB requirements are referring to Permendikbud No. 44/2019 where in Article 6, the prospective students for grade VII should be maximum 15 years old on the July 1 of the current school year and have an elementary school diploma or other equivalent document which explaining the student has completing grade VI of elementary school.
Moreover, at Article 7, requirement for prospective students in senior high or vocational school at grade X should be maximum 21 years on July 1 of the current school year and have completed grade IX in junior high school.
"SMK (vocational school) with specific expertise programs sets the additional requirements for new students enrollment," she added.
She informed, urban village-based zoning is considering Jakarta demography, population density, vertical housing, school distribution, school's capacity, number of school origin, and transportation.
Due to unique Jakarta demography, Disdik sets zoning for PPDB that based on urban village, not the distance between prospective student's home and school.
"Urban village-based zoning in Jakarta has been applied since 2017. The consideration is from the level of population density that is not the same for each urban village and many forms of vertical housing in Jakarta. Furthermore, the distribution of schools is different in each urban villages, as well as the capacity in each schools," she explained.
Urban village-zoning system, she continued, both CPDB who domiciled farther or closer from school will get the same opportunity to be accepted in favorite school as long as both of them live in urban village within the school zoning.
"If number of applicants exceeds the school capacity, then they will be selected based on the age, no longer the distance between school and home. Thus the older CPDBs who live far from school are more likely to pass the selection compared to the younger CPDBs who live close to school.
"In accordance with Article 25 Paragraph 2, selection for fulfilling the last school capacity or quota will select the older CPDBs based on their birth certificates," she closed.
