City Keeps Reminding Residents to Comply Health Protocols, Especially in Wearing Mask

Jakarta Government keeps encouraging residents to comply with health protocols to prevent COVID-19 transmission, especially to wear mask when doing activities outside.

We really want to give deterrent effect thus the policy is adhered for the common good

Jakarta Pamong Praja Police Unit (Satpol PP) Head, Arifin mentioned, social sanctions will be given to residents who do not wear masks by punishing them to clean public facilities for 1-2 hours.

"I have instructed our personnel on duty that the sanction is not only five or ten minutes, but at least one hour. We really want to give deterrent effect thus the policy is adhered for the common good," he asserted, Saturday (7/25).

According to him, clean-up location must be in a proper place and personnel must facilitate and supervise the violators while doing their punishment.

"Personnel should direct them to the location where they can perform cleaning work in public facilities. If the location is far from where the operation is carried out, personnel should provide cars to transport the violators to the targeted location," he explained.

He assessed that it is important to make the social sanctions to give deterrent effects to the residents thus they will not repeat their mistakes in the future.

"Not only for formality, but sanctions are imposed based on the law that has been established. So it should give deterrent effect to make them aware of the situation and worry if they don't wear mask when going outside," he added.

Around 28,000 violators don't wear mask where personnel give social sanctions to 26,000 violators, and administrative fines for the remaining violators.

"Lately, people have become less disciplined and less compliant in using mask. Thus, it is our job to always remind and protect them in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic situation," he closed.
