PPAPP Holds Various Activities in Commemorating Kartini's Day

Jakarta Empowerment, Children Protection and Population Control (PPAPP) Agency holds number of activities in commemorating Kartini's Day from April 21 to May 27, 2021.

Various activities carried out in form of talk shows, webinars, and podcasts. Moreover, there are also dissemination of Communication, Information, and Education (KIE) media for preventing and handling violence against women and children through social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter), Youtube, WhatsApp Group, digital signage; and short films production and screening on good practices in preventing and overcoming violence.

Commemorating Kartini's Day, preliminary webinar will be held with theme 'Kartini, Spirit to Fight Violence Against Women'.

Jakarta TP PKK Head, Ferry Farhati said, Kartini Day reminded people about Kartini's struggle in her life thus she became an extraordinary role model for family.

According to her, there are many things that can be learned from Kartini who was known as generation of learners, as well as smart, broad-minded, brave, independent, and respect her parents.

"We also learn about Kartini as a figure with more advanced point of view than her era. All can be happened because Kartini is a learner who has a passion for reading, curiosity, and high concern. Kartini grows into a mature, empowered and empowering figure who have impact on society," she said when opening series of activities in commemorating Kartini's Day on Wednesday (4/21).

Based on the theme, she wanted Kartini figure can inspire women to be more courageous and mature in facing situations in their environment, especially in dealing domestic violence.

Similar to Kartini, City Mothers also take responsibility for the problems around them, one of which is their role in maintaining harmony in Jakarta. Surely, City Mothers can be a bridge for women who are the victims of violence to escape domestic violence.

"They find solution for problems, then mobilize and empower the surrounding community to take a part in making changes in their environment," she added.

She assessed, there are many Kartini figures in Jakarta who haven't yet known that can become inspiration and role models for families in Jakarta.

"Let us make it happen by retelling the good stories around us and getting involved in doing small things in environment closer to us. God willing, this little thing will be big," she mentioned.

Jakarta PPAPP Agency Head, Tuty Kusumawati said, Kartini's Day momentum was used to carry out action plan for Regional Strategy Activities (KSD) related to prevention and handling violence against women and children.

"Momentum of Kartini's Day is used to increase public awareness of the importance of women's role in family, society, and state," she asserted.

Kartini's figure who fought for women's emancipation and gender equality was used as a good practice to eliminate violence acts against women.

"Jakarta PPAPP Agency together with other regional apparatuses used this momentum as the basis for campaigning prevention and handling violence against women and children," she closed.
