Jakarta Ranks First as Most Democratic Province for Four Consecutive Years

Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has just released the 2020 Indonesian Democracy Index (IDI) figures. Based on the data, IDI Jakarta was ranked first nationally with an index score of 89.21. The Jakarta administration has managed to maintain its score one position for four consecutive years since 2017.

Jakarta National and Political Unity Agency Head, Taufan Bakri said, the number increased by 0.92 points compared to 2019, which was 88.29. Occupying the first position of the most democratic province, it continued to grow, at 84.73 in 2017 and 85.08 in 2018.

"Alhamdulillah, our IDI win the good category. This is because of the support of all parties thus the administration can maintain the first position with the value of the democracy index that continues to grow. We would like to thank all stakeholders and community components who have kept Jakarta conducive and democratic," he said, Friday (9/3), as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

He explained, there were three aspects that are assessed in calculating the IDI score. That was aspects of civil liberties, aspects of political rights and aspects of democratic institutions. In the future, the administration would strive to continuously achieve good categories in the Democracy Index by maintaining democratic values in social life in Jakarta.

"To maintain it, we surely need the support of all parties and the community. Let's together keep Jakarta safe and democratic," he concluded.
