Dry Season, Waste Volume in Ciliwung Reduced

The waste volume that flowed from Bogor and its surrounding areas during rainy season that has dirtied the Ciliwung River looks considerably reduced. This condition is much different if the heavy rain and flood hit Jakarta.

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, water flow in Ciliwung River behind Rindam Jaya Headquarter, Condet, East Jakarta, Sunday (8/2), is dominated with beverage bottles and household waste.

"Indeed, the waste volume during dry season already seen reduced. We only transport 10 sacks per day. It's so different during rainy season, we can transport tons of wastes," said Kodir, a janitor who cleans up the Ciliwung River, Sunday (8/2).

Apuran & Opak River Cleaned Up

Kodir exclaimed he and his colleagues only reduce waste in Ciliwung to prevent waste piles in Manggarai Sluice Gate. "Then we transport it," he told.

Besides in Condet area, he added, there are also other janitors in Lenteng Agung, Kelapa Dua and Kalibata. "Same with us, they also clean up the waste before it gets to Manggarai," he said.

To clean up the waste that flows in Ciliwung, the janitor only using buoys and wooden boats. "As long as there's no rain, waste volume does not stack up, so we can relax in cleaning it," he closed.
