Flood Hits Houses in Kampung Pulo

Flood as high as 1.5 meters hits residents’ houses in Kampung Pulo, Kampung Melayu Urban Village, Jatinegara Sub-District, East Jakarta, Monday (4/7). But until now, locals have yet to take refuge, although the water is predicted to keep rising until 12 PM. This flood is caused by the overflowing of Ciliwung River at around 5.30 AM.

Flood had receded at night, but its water level keeps rising since this morning. Citizens opted to stay in the attic of their house while monitoring further information

Nurdin (50), a resident of RT 04/03 Kampung Pulo, said the settlement has been flooded since Sunday (4/6) afternoon and water had receded at night, but increased again this morning. Even so, he and other residents choose to stay in their homes.

Floods Hit Two Sub-districts in East Jakarta

“Flood had receded at night, but it rising again this morning. We choose to stay in the attics while monitoring the situation,” he uttered.

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, Kampung Pulo residents evacuate their valuables to the second floor of their houses. Meanwhile, motorcycles are parked in the alleys that are not affected by the flood.

Kampung Melayu Urban Village Head, Bambang Pangestu, informed that water level will keep rising and reach its peak at 12 PM. Currently water level is around 30-150 centimeters that inundates RW 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 07, and 08. As for the amount of flood victims, 1,508 households or 3,427 people are affected by the flood.

“Locals must be vigilant. If the condition is dangerous, they are urged to take refuge to safer places that have been provided by us,” he stated.

As usual, refugee camps are set up at the offices of East Jakarta Health Sub-Department, urban village, and some other places.
