South Jakarta Water Management Sub-dept Head, Holi Susanto said that mud dredging in Baru Barat River is carried out to anticipate flood and welcome inauguration of Menteng Atas RPTRA, which falls next week.
"Due to high rainfall, we prepare flood anticipation. It is also for preparation of RPTRA inauguration next week," he told Thursday (2/10).
He explains, the river as wide as seven meters and five meters deep experienced shallowing due to mud thus it needs to be dredged. It is carried out near Menteng Atas RPTRA less than 100 meters with 1 meter deep.
"Mud thickness is one meter, we dredge it. If the dredging is too deep, it will cause collapse and has an impact on sheet pile foundation until landslide," he expressed.
He added will operate one heavy equipment type Spider R65 to pick up mud from the river. It is targeted to be complete one week.
