City Gets 4 New Dump Trucks from Taiwanese Entrepreneurs

Taiwanese entrepreneurs in Indonesia, who are incorporated in Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO), granted four trucks worth USD 100,000. Those trucks were handed over by TETO Representative Head for Indonesia, Chang Liang, and officially received by Vice Jakarta Governor Basuki T Purnama in Jakarta Cleanliness Department office at Cililitan, East Jakarta, Friday (4/11).

We hope this aid could encourage other institutions to join in solving Jakarta’s problems. Thus, all problems can be solved easily

Those four trucks consist of two arm roll trucks to pick up the trashes and two sweeping trucks. And according to the plan, TETO will grant 53 trucks gradually.

“In the last few years, the cooperation between Taiwan and Indonesia in the sectors of economic, trade, investment, education, et cetera, is very good. That’s why we also give assistance to low-income city residents through Jakarta Provincial Government,” stated Chang Liang Jen.

Responding such statement, Basuki replied that since a long time ago Taiwanese Government has shown sense of togetherness with Jakarta Provincial Government through Budha Tzu Chi Foundation which has given aid in many forms, starting from flood aid, education aid, etc.

“That includes when they heard that Jakarta Provincial Government is lacking dump trucks. We hope this aid could encourage other institutions to join in solving Jakarta’s problems. Thus, all problems can be solved easily,” he said.

Moreover, Basuki disclosed that in the nearest future Jakarta Provincial Government will also receive grant in form of two tronton dump trucks from a heavy equipment company and tens of dump trucks from an entrepreneur from Tiongkok. With additional dump trucks, trash handling in the capital city is expected would be better.

For information, Jakarta has 733 dump trucks, which is already ideal because the amount has passed 700. Unfortunately, from those 733 dump trucks, only 280 of them are worthy to operate, while the rest are damaged because their age is more than 10 years old. Whereas ideally, worthy dump trucks should have below 8 years of age.

“We’ll rejuvenate dump trucks which age above 8 years old. This year, we’re planning to rejuvenate 132 dump trucks. But, it will be done after the procurement of 132 new dump trucks is realized,” uttered Head of Jakarta Cleanliness Department, Saptastri Ediningtyas.

According to Ediningtyas, if TETO granted 53 dump trucks and the procurement of 132 new dump trucks realized this year, her department will have 465 worthy dump trucks. In addition, Jakarta Cleanliness Department is also targeting to have 733 dump trucks that are truly effective and worthy to operate in 2016.
