Dike Construction should Prevent Tidal Wave, Basuki Says

Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama ensured capital city would free from tidal wave flood after dike construction in North and West Jakarta is finished this year.

Dike construction is planned to start in April 2016.

“I ensure no more tidal wave flood in North Jakarta after dike construction is done. Tidal wave flood in Cilincing and Tanjung Priok should be gone,” he said, Tuesday (3/1).

Levee Project in North Jakarta Has Entered Auction

Basuki explained dike in North Jakarta is built by 3.8 meter of height and 2.8 km lenght from Cilincing to Tanjung Priok area. Dike construction will run together with road construction as wide as 20 meter.

“West Jakarta should be free from tidal wave also,” he added.

While waiting the construction process, Basuki asked to open Manggarai sluice gate. It is aimed to divide water from Ciliwung river and lightened west flood canal burden. Kota Tua area is already covered by Pluit reservoir and Pasar Ikan sluice gate.

“We have instructed to open Manggarai sluice gate,” he stated.
