Hundreds Illegal Huts Dirtying Menteng Pulo TPU

Hundreds of illegal huts stood atop Menteng Pulo public cemetery, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, causing dirty and slum looks around the area.
The individual who backs them up, had warned us during the inventory process not to control the building
Those huts were built at Budha Unit owned by city administration. The huts owners were freely maintain their building due to backed up by certain individual.
"We've done an inventory, where the land is divided into sub-districts. There are 203 huts in Menteng Pulo Setiabudi and 182 huts in Tebet Sub-district," said Salim, Head Section of Supervision and Control for Jakarta Dept. of Parks and Cemetery, Tuesday (4/15).

According to him, there will be no demolition against illegal huts on the cemetery's land this year. The department is prioritizing persuasive way. "We told the building owners that they violate Bylaw No 8/2007 about Public Order," he stated.
Nevertheless, he asserted, the illegal huts should be controlled due to the land is a green open space area. "Satpol PP might be involved for controlling the huts," he asserted.
Previously, illegal huts were controlled in 2010, but they came back because of low supervision from related unit.
