To bolster the smooth communication of the deaf, South Jakarta Social Sub-Department gives seven hearing aids to those who are in need in the Tanjung Barat Family Income Increase Effort (UP2K) Implementation Group (Pokpel), Tanjung Barat Urban Village, Jagakarsa Sub-District, South Jakarta.

“We see the opportunity of the disabled, especially the deaf, in South Jakarta, is very great to be empowered. So, we work with Family Welfare Movement (PKK) to find a community empowerment group that works for the disabled,” stated Head of South Jakarta Social Sub-Department, Abdurahman Anwar, Wednesday (17/4).
According to Anwar, Tanjung Barat UP2K has been empowering the disabled since a long time. For that, South Jakarta Social Sub-Department gives them seven hearing aids to facilitate the communication between its members.
24 People with Social Disability Problems Caught in North Jakarta“The Implementation Group has represented Jakarta to national level. There are seven hearing aids that we gave to its members who suffer deaf, so they could communicate well and make better products,” he uttered.
Not only assist in the production, Anwar continued, with the hearing aids, deaf members could also help in marketing. “They can stand in booths during exhibition, so the marketing team can also increase. And, their knowledge would increase, not only in terms of production but marketing as well,” he told.
The price for a unit of hearing aid in the market ranges between Rp 800 thousand to Rp 1.3 million. “Yes, for this, the price is not a matter since it is an aid. It can motivate the disabled that they can actually live a normal life and do creative works to improve their economy just like the other,” he explained.
For information, Tanjung Barat UP2K Implementation Group is going to follow the 2014 National Level UP2K Competition representing Jakarta Province. UP2K competition itself is a routine program held to motivate the women incorporated in TP PKK to continue to make creations and provide additional revenue for their surrounding community. Besides mothers, Tanjung Barat UP2K also empowers disabled people.
