JIS Kindergarten will Be Closed Temporarily

Education and Culture Ministry on Monday (4/21) will close Jakarta International School (JIS) Kindergarten, Cilandak, South Jakarta. Through Formal and Informal Early Childhood Education Center (PAUD) General Directorate, the ministry will send the official letter related to JIS Kindergarten closing.

JIS is not a diplomatic representative school that uses curriculum of countries it represents. It is an international school. It allows Indonesian students study there, while diplomatic representative school prohibits such a thing

“We will send a letter about (the kindergarten) temporary closing to JIS,” stated Formal and Informal PAUD Directorate General for Education and Culture Ministry, Lydia Freyani H, Saturday (4/19).

Freyani asserted that all JIS Kindergarten operational activities have to be stopped and the school must send home its students and teachers.

“We want them (JIS Kindergarten) to complete permit requirements. If they were being cooperative, I think it would only take a while. The (Education and Culture) Minister gives a month to close the school, but our audit team has moved since Thursday (4/17) and hopefully finished on Wednesday (4/23),” she uttered.

Freyani believes that JIS could act cooperatively.

“Although the officials who delivered the summoning letter could not enter (the school), but they (JIS officials) still came. I’m sure they will not dare to do something wrong,” she expressed.

For information, the investigation and audit team examines documents as permit refferal from JIS Kindergarten. This is because JIS is only an international school, not a diplomatic representative school.

JIS is not a diplomatic representative school that uses curriculum of countries it represents. It is an international school. It allows Indonesian students study there, while diplomatic representative school prohibits such a thing,” she explained.

One of the requirements of international school is that it must have at least 30 percent of Indonesian students from the total amount of educational employees there. Moreover, the school must also have 80 percent of administration employees and Indonesian teachers at least 30 percent.

“We haven’t had those documents yet,” admitted Freyani.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), Erlinda, said that JIS Kindergarten closing is not only to fulfill the needs of investigator and independent team, but also for JIS students.

“It is a psychological protection for the children. Because, we afraid their study would be disturbed and confused when the investigation team, the police, or the media come,” she said.

As reported before, the sexual abuse case happened in JIS Kindergarten was revealed after T, mother of AK (5) who is one of JIS Kindergarten students, saw her son’s abnormal behavior. In addition, she also discovered that her son’s anus has herpes disease. After he was asked, AK finally told that he had experienced sexual abuse in the school toilet which done by several cleaning service employees. After the case reported to the City Police on March 24, two people initialed AI and VA have been named as suspects. Besides them, a woman with initial AF is still being questioned as witness.
