City to Handle Monorail Business Plan Next Month

The point is that we only need to calculate about the price PT JM wants to rent our land. If the calculation fit, monorail will be built

PT Jakarta Monorail (JM) is going to handover its business plan about monorail depot construction to Jakarta Provincial Government on upcoming May 5. The depot itself will be as wide as 200,000 square meters and located in Tomang Park area, West Jakarta.

“The point is that we only need to calculate about the price PT JM wants to rent our land. If the calculation fit, monorail will be built,” stated Vice Jakarta Governor Basuki T Purnama at City Hall, Monday (4/21).

Monorail Construction also Hampered by Land Availability

However, Basuki admitted that he cannot confirm yet when the cooperation agreement between Jakarta Provincial Government and PT JM will be signed.

“I don’t know when. We just need to calculate how much the rental property is. Later, PT JM will get 80 percent profit from the commercial area renting and 20 percent from (monorail) ticket sales,” he uttered.

Earlier, PT JM planned to build a mall in each station. However, according to Basuki, the calculation of rental cost and mal construction does not make sense. Jakarta Provincial Government brings up this rental tariff issue of property for commercial activities because assessed that monorail business plan is unfeasible in terms of number of passengers.

“This (property issue) was filed after we crossed out the number of passengers. At that time, they (PT JM) said that to make the business worth, they wanted more than 200 thousand passengers per day. We said it did not make sense, because passengers could only reach 100 thousand people top. To make the business feasible, they said there should be a property as wide as 200 thousand square meters,” he explained.
