410 Personnel of W. Jakarta Balakar Are Ready for Duty

As many as 410 personnel of Fire Volunteer (Balakar) are ready to be assigned in 22 posts and sectors in West Jakarta.

They (Balakar) are not allowed to directly put out the flames. They are just behind of the firefighter perseonnel

Hardisiswan, Head of West Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-dept disclosed that Balakar duty is fighting fire in the field by deploying, connecting hoses, helping in the source water, controlling hoses and water flow.

"They (Balakar) are not allowed to directly put out the flames. They are just behind of the firefighter personnel," he told, Monday (4/18).

Other duties, he continued, are helping facility and infrastructure that has given by West Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-dept that exist in the resident.

"As well as contribute and socialize about how to anticipate fire to local residents. They just monitor and help," he expressed.

His sub-dept previously had provided the personal protective equipment (APD) for hundreds of Balakar personnel when conducting duties in the field.

They are prohibited from receiving wages from the government. "They just get packaged meal rice and drink from April until December 2016 while undergoing duties in the field," he said.
