City Still Lacks of Clean Water

Jakarta needs clean water until 31 meter cubic per second to complete citizens needs of piped clean water. But until this time, clean water is only available for 18 thousands meter cubic per second, it remains lack of 13 thousand meters per second. So that, city is still lacking of clean water. General Director of PDAM, Sri Kaderi Widjayanto said.

In fact, it is very difficult to get and process the raw water in Jakarta to be consumable

"The needs of clean water is managed by two operators, PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) and PT Air Aetra Jakarta (Aetra)," Widjayanto stated, Thursday (4/24).

According to Widjayanto, 13 rivers and 70 sub-rivers in the city would add clean water stock up to 15 thousands cubic per capita yearly.

"In fact, it is very difficult to get and process the raw water in Jakarta to be consumable," Widjayanto added.

Widjayanto explained the piped clean water only covers 60 percent of Jakarta residents. The remaining 16 percent get it from non-piped clean water such as water station or water kiosk, and hydrant. While for 24 percent of people take it from ground water. It is targeted that the piped water service could reach 87 percent in 2018.

One of the efforts taken to boost the service, Widjayanto claimed, is building raw water processing installation in Bekasi. Another installation in Ciliwung is also planned to be built by involving two Local Owned Enterprises (BUMD) and State Owned Enterprises (BUMN).

"Probably, the installation to process clean water of Ciliwung river will be constructed in Lenteng Agung area or Condet. We will built a reservoir along Ciliwung river," he said.

Next step, water processing installation to be built in Pejaten and Pesanggrahan with Palyja, and mobile water installation from Pulit Reservoir to be distributed to Puit flats.
