200 Absorption Wells to Be Built in West Jakarta

Jakarta Provincial Government will build 200 absorption wells in West Jakarta this year. Besides functioning as backup water storages, the wells are also effective in minimizing flood.

“To build absorption wells, 200 bio pore equipments will be prepared in each sub-district and urban village,” stated Head of Natural Resource Damage Handling for West Jakarta Environment Office (KLH), Askot Pardede, Friday (4/25).

According to Pardede, the absorption well’s water can be utilized to meet citizens’ needs during dry season. While in rainy season, the well is able to minimize the impact of flooding.

“Absorption wells can restore groundwater quality, thus it can be used in dry season. Moreover, the wells can also minimize the impact of flooding,” he told.

In accordance to Governor Regulation No. 115/2001 about Absorption Well Construction, added Pardede, requirements has been set for absorption well construction in building area, in which the drainage towards the well is separated from the water channel.

“Absorption well must be built in a place that has stable soil structure and in off-site waste landfill,” he uttered.
