Next year, around 100 traders of Pasar Bebek on Jalan Akses Marunda, Cilincing, North Jakarta, will be relocated to Jalan Malaka Bulak, RT 001/03, Rorotan, Cilincing. The reason is because the old market is deemed already unworthy in some aspects, such as cleanliness and sanitation. Moreover, the old market also causes traffic congestion because its visitors parked their vehicles on roadside.

For the market relocation, North Jakarta Fishery Livestock and Marine (P2K) Sub-Department plans to build a Poultry Business Center on a 3,000-square meter land on Jalan Malaka Bulak, equipped with Sewage Treatment Plant (IPAL) to prevent pollution. The land acquisition for this plan is targeted to finish this year. At this time, North Jakarta P2K Sub-Department has conducted data recording and socialization to Pasar Bebek traders.

“We’ve collected the traders’ data. There are 40 traders having kiosks and 60 others using motorcycles. All is willing to be relocated,” stated Head of North Jakarta P2K Sub-Department, Sri Haryati, Sunday (4/27).

According to Haryati, her department has also conducted socialization to the locals about the poultry business center which will meet standards. This is because aside the area occupied by the traders now is unhygienic, the land that belongs to PT Kawasan Berikat Nusantara (KBN) will also be used.

“We’re still convincing the locals that the poultry business center we’ll build has met standards. We’ll take them to see poultry centers in West Jakarta that already have IPAL, so they would convince that the upcoming poultry center will not pollute the environment,” she uttered.

However, some traders objected to the relocation plan. They are worried the new place will be deserted from buyers and they would be rejected by local people.

“Right now, I can reap Rp 5-8 million per day or sell 100 ducks. But in new place, I’m worried my income would decline. Besides, we had been relocated to Cilincing in 2000, but the locals rejected us,” expressed one of the traders in Pasar Bebek.
