May Day, Thousands of Labor Get Down to City Streets

Commemorating May Day on May 1, thousands of labors will hold long march. The labors will down to the street from several areas such as in Pulogadung Industrial Area, and KBN Cakung. Thousands of labors will gather at HI roundabout and then heading towards State Palace on Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, Gambir, Central Jakarta.

The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Union Alliance (KASBI) Chairman, Nining Elitos, said that the street action will still be carried out on this May Day to convey the workers’ aspirations. The action is performed by the existing workers alliance in Central Jakarta area.

We’ll conduct long march, the meeting point is at HI roundabout. Then continued to the State palace and to the City Hall," said Nining, in KASBI office on Jalan Pisangan Timur, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, Monday (4/28).

Hundreds of Labors Demanding USMP Ratification

The action will start at 09.00 AM until 05.30 PM. This action is also planned to be conducted at the same time throughout Indonesia, with a total crowd of approximately 250 thousand people.

In this action, the workers called for ten demands to the government. Among them are: outsourcing, social security for the workers, a national living wage, the protection of women workers and migrant workers, as well as the request for lowered prices of basic necessities and so on.
