Jakarta Coastal Areas on Alert for Possible Tidal Flood

The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has issued an alert over potential coastal flood forecast to occur from February 11 to 16, 2026.

"Coastal residents need to heighten preparedness,"

The warning was issued after the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Maritime Class I Meteorological Station in Tanjung Priok reported a peak sea tide phenomenon coinciding with the New Moon phase.

Jakarta BPBD Head Isnawa Adji said the phenomenon could trigger a rise in sea levels along the northern coast of Jakarta.

Coastal Residents in Jakarta Urged to Be Alert for Tidal Flooding

He added that peak high tide is expected between 5 AM and 10 AM, with several areas potentially affected.

The areas include Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, Kalibaru, Muara Angke, Tanjung Priok, and the Thousand Islands.

"Coastal residents need to heighten preparedness, as the high tide could last for several consecutive days," he emphasized on Wednesday (2/11).

Jakarta BPBD urged residents to remain alert to changing weather conditions and dynamic sea levels that may shift rapidly. Residents are also advised to avoid activities in coastal areas prone to tidal flooding, particularly during peak tide.

"Ensure drainage system around homes are functioning properly to prevent flooding," he noted.

Jakarta BPBD also called on the public to monitor official updates through government digital channels, including the Tidal Early Warning page at bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut, the JAKI application to report flooding, and pantaubanjir.jakarta.go.id for real-time updates.

"The free 112 emergency service has also been prepared by the government to respond to emergencies and public reports requiring assistance," he added.
