Jakarta Puts Entertainment Venues Under the Microscope This Ramadan

The Jakarta Satpol PP, in coordination with an integrated task force, is set to intensify its watch over entertainment and recreational businesses throughout Ramadan and Idulfitri festivities.

Coordination is key

The joint enforcement drive will span 33 days, from February 18 to March 22, 2026. The operation will zero in on all tourism and recreational hubs, with a particular focus on nightlife venues across the city’s five administrative regions.

This integrated oversight comes in the wake of Jakarta Bylaw No. 6/2015 on Tourism and Gubernatorial Regulation No. 18/2018. The crackdown follows specific guidelines issued in a Circular Letter by the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency on February 13, 2026, which outlines operational hours and restrictions for tourism businesses during Ramadan and Idulfitri.

Jakarta Satpol PP Deputy Head, Rizki Adhari Jusal noted that the oversight of the hospitality and entertainment sector is a standard operating procedure conducted annually ahead of Ramadan.

He stated that a circular has been widely disseminated to all operators, mandating them to close their doors on several key dates: the eve of Ramadan, the eve of Idulfitri (Takbiran), the first and second days of Idulfitri, the day following Idulfitri, and the 17th of Ramadan for Nuzulul Qur’an.

Rizki specified that the mandatory shutdown applies to nightclubs, discos, steam baths, massage parlors, adult arcades—whether manual, mechanical, or electronic—and bars, including those situated within larger entertainment complexes.

"Any ancillary services operating within the same premises must also follow suit and cease operations,” he added, while presiding over a joint task force briefing at City Hall, Thursday (2/19).

"Businesses found flouting the rules will face the full weight of the law, including criminal or administrative sanctions under Bylaw No. 6/2015," he warned.

He also urged all personnel to run their duties by the book, maintaining a professional yet persuasive and humane approach.

“Coordination is key. We must work hand-in-hand with the Metro Police, the Military Garrison (Kogartap 1), the Tourism Agency, and the National Unity and Politics Office (Kesbangpol) to ensure all monitoring data stays in sync,” he concluded.

He emphasized that any major developments must be reported immediately through the proper chain of command. The 33-day enforcement operation is expected to proceed without a hitch.
