Pramono-Rano Increasing Focus on Strengthening Basic Services

Jakarta City Council's Deputy Chairman, Wibi Andrino assessed that one year of leadership under the Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung–Rano Karno, showed an increasingly clear direction and focus on policies.

Jakarta must progress

This can be seen from the strengthening of basic services, such as public transportation, flood control, and the arrangement of densely populated areas and green open spaces.

Public Services and Social Protection Prioritized by Pramono-Rano

Wibi said expanding TransJabodetabek services and strengthening intermodal integration are strategic steps to address cross-regional congestion. He emphasized that Jakarta's mobility issues cannot be solved partially but require an integrated agglomeration approach.

"Jakarta City Council is pushing for these programs to not just stop at ceremonies or planning, but to be truly consistent in execution, on target, and measurable in their impact. Budget transparency, accelerated infrastructure spending, and strengthened field oversight must be priorities," he said, Friday (2/20).

Regarding flood mitigation, Wibi stated that river normalization remains a crucial tool, particularly in vulnerable areas such as main river flows and downstream areas. However, this measure needs to be accompanied by naturalization, reservoir or lake construction, pump optimization, and environmental drainage improvements.

"Its effectiveness has begun to be felt in some areas, but it is not yet evenly distributed. This means that acceleration and consistency in implementation are needed," he added.

In the transportation sector, Wibi emphasized that the expansion of TransJabodetabek is the right move. However, its success depends heavily on the integration of fares and routes, as well as ease of transfer between modes.

According to him, the integration between MRT, LRT, and Transjakarta must become increasingly seamless, including payment systems, departure schedules, and bus and station connectivity. With effective integration, it is hoped that people will be increasingly encouraged to switch from private vehicles to public transportation.

"In principle, the Jakarta City Council will continue to ensure that provincial government policies are oriented toward resident safety, equitable access to services, and the city's sustainability. Jakarta must progress, but it must also be safe and comfortable for all its community," he stated.
