BPBD Issues Alert Over Tidal Flooding in 12 Jakarta Coastal Areas

Jakarta Regional Management Disaster (BPBD) has issued a warning over potential tidal flooding forecast to occur from February 25 to March 1, 2026.

"...as high tides may last for several consecutive days,"

The warning was issued after the BMKG Class I Maritime Meteorology Station in Tanjung Priok reported peak sea tides coinciding with the Perigee phenomenon.

Jakarta BPBD Head Isnawa Adji said the phenomenon could trigger a rise in sea levels along Jakarta's northern coast.

"Coastal residents need to heighten preparedness, as high tides may last for several consecutive days. Ensure drainage systems around homes are functioning properly to prevent flooding," he stressed, Wednesday (2/25).

He noted that peak tides are expected between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., with several areas potentially affected, including Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, Kalibaru, Muara Angke, Tanjung Priok, and the Thousand Islands area.

BPBD urged residents to remain alert to changing weather conditions and rapidly shifting sea dynamics. The agency also advised people to avoid activities in coastal areas vulnerable to tidal flooding, particularly during peak high tide.

Residents are advised to check official updates through government digital platforms, including the High Wave Early Warning page at bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut, the JAKI app to report flooding, and pantaubanjir.jakarta.go.id for real-time updates.

"The free 112 emergency service is also on standby to respond to urgent situations and public reports requiring assistance," he added.
