Karet Pasar Water Channel Upgrade Nears Early May Completion

The Central Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency set a target to wrap up the normalization of a water channel on Jalan Karet Pasar Baru Barat IV, Karet Tengsin, Tanah Abang, by early May.

This channel can prevent flooding

Tanah Abang SDA Unit Head, Eli Menawan Sari detailed that the 100-meter-long channel was being overhauled using 60x60 centimeter U-Ditch concrete units.

"The project, which fielded a team of 10 personnel, had been underway since February 23," she expressed, Thursday (3/5).

This work was set in motion as a direct response to a formal petition from residents, which was funneled through the Karet Tengsin Urban Village Office. Locals had raised a red flag regarding the constricted state of the legacy drainage system, noting that its narrow dimensions frequently caused water to burst its banks during storms, triggering chronic flooding across the neighborhood.

"We are optimistic that this channel can prevent flooding when it rains with heavy level," she added.

This work received appreciation from one of the residents, Sulastri from RT 06, Karet Tengsin.

"Hopefully, it can be done on time, so we can be free of flooding," she hoped.
