Food Inspections Tightened in N. Jakarta Ahead of Eid al-Fitr

North Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency conducted inspections of fresh agricultural and livestock products at several traditional markets and supermarkets.

North Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head Novy Christine Palit explained the inspections are part of a routine program to ensure food on the market is safe, healthy and fit for consumption, and are also part of intensified monitoring during Ramadan leading up to Eid al-Fitr 2026.

"We want to provide maximum protection for the public by ensuring food quality remains good. We also aim to maintain price stability and ensure adequate food supply in both traditional markets and supermarkets," she said on Friday (3/6).

She informed that the inspections were conducted at five locations in North Jakarta: Mandiri Market in Kelapa Gading, Hibrida Market in Kelapa Gading, Kalibaru Market in Cilincing, Superindo at Sport Mall Kelapa Gading, and Daily Food Hall at Mall of Indonesia (MOI) Kelapa Gading.

"The activity is still ongoing. We also urge residents to be more careful when choosing food products and to make sure the items they purchase are in good condition," she added.

North Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency's Agriculture and Food Security Section Head, Gusti Arvianty, said the inspections focused on several fresh food commodities widely consumed by the public.

The commodities inspected included livestock products such as chicken, beef, chicken liver and gizzard, and beef skin, as well as agricultural products including rice, various types of chili, vegetables, and fruits such as apples and grapes.

"All food samples collected were tested on-site using two mobile laboratory vehicles owned by the Jakarta KPKP Agency, allowing the results to be obtained quickly," she asserted.

Gusti detailed that her team tested 13 samples at Mandiri Market in Kelapa Gading, consisting of nine agricultural products and four livestock products, and 11 samples at Hibrida Market in Kelapa Gading, including eight agricultural products and three livestock products.

At Kalibaru Market in Cilincing, the team examined seven agricultural products and three livestock products. Meanwhile, nine agricultural products and three livestock products were tested at Superindo in Sport Mall Kelapa Gading, and nine agricultural products and two livestock products at Daily Food Hall in Mall of Indonesia (MOI) Kelapa Gading.

"In total, 57 food samples were tested, consisting of 42 agricultural products and 15 livestock products. The results showed that all samples tested negative for hazardous substances and are safe for consumption," she emphasized.

Meanwhile, a trader at Pasar Mandiri Kelapa Gading, Komariah (45), welcomed the inspections, saying they provide greater assurance for both traders and buyers.

"The safety of the food we sell can be assured," she said.

She added that prices of several food commodities have remained relatively stable so far, although some items have seen slight increases.

“This is a very positive activity. Thank God, all products are safe, and so far there have been no significant price increases. Only a few commodities, such as chili, are still priced above Rp100,000 per kilogram," she noted.
