Muslim Fashion Sales Soar at Tanah Abang

Sales of Muslim attire at Tanah Abang’s Blok A building have seen a sharp year-over-year uptick through the third week of Ramadan.

Sales for Muslim apparel are up about 70%

On-site observations Wednesday (3/11) noon revealed crowds flocking to vendors for gamis (long robes) and traditional Islamic wear. Market analysts expect the buying frenzy to persist through Sunday (3/15), as residents prepare for the upcoming holiday.

Nova Marlina, a 35-year-old retailer in Tanah Abang’s Blok A, reported a 70% year-over-year spike in revenue this Ramadan season.

"Thankfully, sales for Muslim apparel are up about 70% compared to last year," she noted.

We’ve seen a steady stream of shoppers since the start of the month, and the momentum is only building as we enter the third week of Ramadan.

She noted that the bulk of shoppers are eyeing a range of apparel, including gamis, tunics, and koko or sadariah shirts.

"The binor gamis and tunics are currently the season's must-haves," she explained.

The shop currently draws between 30 and 50 customers daily, a number she expects will climb as the public holiday approaches.

"We’re looking forward to an even bigger surge in foot traffic over the next few days," she added.

Sari, a 25-year-old from Bekasi, West Java, is among the crowds drawn to Tanah Abang for its budget-friendly prices and vast selection.

"I’m stocking up on hijabs and koko shirts as gifts for my relatives in Solo," she concluded.
