The Jelambar Urban Village and the Grogol Petamburan Sub-district Transportation Unit in West Jakarta have agreed to implement traffic diversion on Jalan Satria IV.
To handle such high traffic volumes
This move follows up on proposals from residents who complained about congestion in their neighborhood due to the high volume of passing vehicles.
Jalembar Urban Village Head, Pradista Machdala Putra said, many public and private vehicles from the direction of Daan Mogot are cutting through the residential area to avoid the flyover construction on Jalan Latumenten.
Heads Up: Traffic Rerouted for New Puri Indah Pedestrian Bridge"Since these are designated as residential roads, they are clearly not equipped to handle such high traffic volumes, which inevitably triggers congestion," he said, Friday (3/13).
Beyond triggering congestion, residents are also concerned about safety as many vehicles travel at high speeds.
"Residents have proposed traffic management measures on their neighborhood streets as a solution," he said.
The restriction will permit only resident-owned vehicles—identified by RW 04 Jelambar stickers—to pass through. Local civil defense personnel (Satlinmas) will be stationed to guard the area and turn away vehicles without the required stickers.
In response to the proposal, the Grogol Petamburan Sub-district Transportation Unit has approved the plan. However, an evaluation will be conducted to assess the effectiveness of these traffic restriction measures.
If the results are positive, the traffic management plan will stay in place. Should it worsen the gridlock, a review will be done to find other solutions.
"We are still in the preparation phase. It will likely be implemented after Idulfitri holiday," he added.
