1,554 Potholes in E. Jakarta Fixed for Safer Eid Homecoming

The East Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency has completed repairs on 1,554 potholes in preparation for the Eid homecoming season.

Hope these improvements offer safety and comfort to drivers

East Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency Head, Benhard Hutajulu said the initiative aims to provide safety and comfort for travelers using public transit or private vehicles, such as cars and motorbikes.

"It is recorded that between March 1 and 15, 2026, 1,554 potholes in East Jakarta were successfully repaired," he expressed, Tuesday (3/17).

He noted that persistent heavy rain since January resulted in standing water that damaged roads in various locations. Consequently, personnel conducted sweeps and fixed road defects in 10 sub-districts.

"Hope these improvements offer safety and comfort to drivers, especially homebound travelers passing through East Jakarta," he hoped.

He noted that East Jakarta serves as a strategic crossroads bordering satellite cities like Bekasi, Depok, and Bogor. As a result, many travelers traverse the area to reach Central Java, West Java, and Banten.

"Fixing the roads is a priority and part of our commitment to ensuring a safe, comfortable, and smooth journey for travelers," he explained.

He detailed that the repaired pothole locations include 100 spots in Pasar Rebo, 222 in Ciracas, 69 in Cipayung, 180 in Kramat Jati, 182 in Makasar, 97 in Jatinegara, 132 in Matraman, 134 in Duren Sawit, 209 in Cakung, and 144 in Pulo Gadung. Overall, the total length of the repaired roads reached 3,860.16 meters with an average width of 1.88 meters, covering a total area of approximately 7,256.30 square meters.

"Various materials were used, including 6,358.96 square meters of hot-mix asphalt, 730.90 square meters of cold mix, and 166.44 square meters of scrap material," he explained.

Benhard confirmed that road inspections will remain ongoing despite the thousands of repairs already completed. He noted, road conditions are dynamic, as heavy rain often leads to the formation of new potholes.

"I also urge the public to play an active role by reporting any potholes they encounter in their area," he added.

Meanwhile, Joko (37), a motorcyclist traveling home for Eid, admitted that he personally felt the benefits of the road repairs.

"My thanks go to the East Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency; the roads are much smoother now, which definitely makes me feel safer and more comfortable," he stated.
