Legislator Nabilah Reminds Newcomers to Prepare Before Moving to Jakarta

The flow of urbanization after Eid al-Fitr continues to return to Jakarta. This annual phenomenon confirms Jakarta's position as a magnet for people from various regions seeking employment and improving their standard of living.

Jakarta may still be a favorite

However, behind these opportunities, major challenges also loom, particularly regarding the increasingly limited capacity of the city.

Legislator of Commission D of the Jakarta City Council, Nabilah Aboebakar Alhabsyi, reminded newcomers not to come to Jakarta without thorough preparation.

Nabilah emphasized the importance of skills, job security, and economic readiness before deciding to migrate to the capital.

"Jakarta may still be a favorite, but we must be realistic because life here isn't easy. Newcomers should come with a clear plan, not just hoping for luck," she said, Wednesday (3/25).

According to her, the unplanned arrival of immigrants has the potential to create new problems in urban areas, from rising unemployment to the emergence of uninhabitable settlements that can worsen environmental quality and urban planning.

Nabilah urged the Jakarta Provincial Government to strengthen its population data collection and administrative oversight system. She also assessed the need for increased education for prospective immigrants, particularly regarding the real-world conditions of employment and the high cost of living in Jakarta.

Through these efforts, Nabilah hopes that urbanization can be more controlled and not cause wider social impacts.

"Jakarta remains open to everyone, but it needs to be maintained together so that it remains orderly and livable for all its citizens," she stated.
