Jakarta Youth Film Festival to Be a Role Model in Indonesia, Rano Says

Deputy Governor Rano Karno is optimistic that the Jakarta Youth Film Festival (JYFF), initiated by the Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative Office for Jakarta Province, will become a role model for other provinces throughout Indonesia.

He explained that JYFF, which provides a forum for young filmmakers to compete in making short films, is part of and a stage in the formation of the film industry ecosystem.

"Many of the big producers in the international film world such as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Jackie Chan also started out with short films," he said, Thursday (4/2).

Rano added that his party is serious about encouraging film development in Jakarta. In addition to working to establish the Jakarta Film Commission, Rano also emphasized his commitment to fostering Jakarta's development as a City of Cinema.

Rano admitted that to make this happen, the participation and support of various parties is needed, including the banking sector, such as the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for Jakarta Province.

"As part of the creative industry, the film industry has great economic prospects," he added.

The Head of the BI Representative Office for Jakarta Province, Iwan Setiawan, emphasized that the celebration of National Film Day as part of the 2026 JYFF is his party's support for the development of the film industry.

According to Iwan, his party has been holding the JYFF event since 2025, as an effort to encourage the creative film industry ecosystem in Jakarta to continue growing through competitions and a series of other activities.

"We have responded positively to the Jakarta Provincial Government's vision. We are certainly deeply invested in Jakarta's economic growth," he admitted.
