Jakarta Speeds Up Waste Removal to Maintain City Comfort

Jakarta Environment Agency is moving quickly to clear trash pile-ups across the city caused by the Eid holiday and a landslide at the Bantargebang landfill.

Our aim is to ensure drivers work under safe and orderly

These expedited efforts aim to maintain resident comfort and fulfill the government's commitment to delivering excellent public service.

Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto stated, the situation has forced adjustments in how waste is transported to the Bantargebang facility. One strategy involves shifting transport schedules to avoid truck build-ups and traffic congestion around the site's access points.

Local Leaders Urged to Drive Source-Based Waste Sorting Movement

"Post-Eid, combined with the recent landslide at Bantargebang, we are seeing trash pile up in parts of the city. We are not hiding this reality and offer our apologies to the community for the discomfort caused," he expressed, Monday (4/6).

According to him, the Environment Agency has not placed limits on waste shipments. Instead, it is optimizing distribution through more calculated work systems and shifts for the dump trucks.

"Waste transport is now split into three shifts per day to streamline the flow and keep truck queues to a minimum," he added.

Under this system in place, the agency guarantees that truck dwelling times are kept in check, not exceeding three hours. Beyond operational efficiency, this move aims to safeguard the health and safety of the drivers.

"Our aim is to ensure drivers work under safe and orderly conditions while keeping the waste transport process running smoothly," he explained.

The agency is carrying out intensive cleanup operations at various accumulation points as it ramps up waste removal. At the Kali Anyar TPS, clearing operations are finished, and the area has been restored to a clean and sterile condition.

In a separate effort, the Rawadas TPS, which was an illegal dumping site, has been permanently shut down. This was achieved through a joint effort with local sub-district officials and Satpol PP in the Pondok Kopi cemetery area. The site was fully cleared of trash by Wednesday (4/1) night.

Handling is also in progress at the Kencana TPS under the Wiyoto Wiyono Toll Road. After it is fully cleared, the site will be shut down permanently, fenced off, and monitored by a joint task force consisting of the LMK, Satpol PP, and police.

He expects waste shipments to Bantargebang to normalize this week. Efforts are also being made to quickly clear and distribute leftover waste from the post-holiday period to treatment facilities like the Bantargebang TPST and the RDF Plant.

"We're committed to speeding up waste removal to ensure resident comfort. Our team is working around the clock to restore normalcy and maintain excellent service," he stated.
