Legislators Support Controlling of Billboards with Sensitive Content

Member of Commission A of the Jakarta City Council, Kevin Wu, supports the Jakarta Provincial Government's move to remove promotional billboards for the horror film 'Aku Harus Mati'.

I think it's right

He believed the action was appropriate, as the advertisement had sparked controversy in the community. Furthermore, the film's content was deemed to contain sensitive messages that could potentially disturb the psychological well-being of residents, particularly children who pass through public spaces.

Horror Film Billboards Removed, Pram Deplores Promotional Strategy Without Considering Social Impact

"I think it's right and it should be done," he said," Monday (4/6).

Kevin assessed that advertising content containing scary elements needs to be more strictly regulated. This is because outdoor media like billboards don't have audience restrictions.

"In the context of film advertising, there are already age groups for viewers. However, when it's shown on a billboard, we can't distinguish who's watching," he added.

Kevin also urged creative industry players to pay more attention to the visual impact on society, especially children.

"We support the creative industry, but we need to be empathetic. We don't want content that's not suitable for certain age groups to be widely distributed without any filtering," he continued.

Furthermore, Kevin also highlighted the importance of technical billboard settings, such as lighting. He stated that excessively bright lighting can potentially distract drivers, especially at night.

"This can increase the risk of accidents," he stated.
