Basic Needs Distributed to Fire Survivors in Kebayoran Lama Selatan

Head of South Jakarta Social Services Sub-agency, Bernard Tambunan said the assistance was provided immediately after the fire that destroyed four houses and affected at least 25 people.

"On the evening after the incident, we immediately distributed aid to the refugee location and it was received by the urban village and residents," he said, Friday (4/17).

The assistance provided includes three sets of school supplies, household cleaning equipment, toiletries, sleeping equipment, roll-up tents, family kits, and seven packages of food supplies.

"We have also coordinated to meet the needs of ready-to-eat food and mineral water according to the number and needs of fire survivors," he added.

South Jakarta BPBD Platoon Commander, Muhammad Nur, stated that his party also provided assistance in the form of 15 packages of sleeping equipment, clothing packages, and family kits.

The BPBD also set up a refugee tent unit around the fire location to provide a temporary resting place for survivors during the recovery process.

"We hope that the assistance can ease the burden on fire survivors for a while," he hoped.

Meanwhile, Head Section of Operation for South Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency, Sjukri Bahanan explained in the process of extinguishing the fire that occurred on Thursday (4/16) afternoon, his party deployed 30 fire engines with 141 personnel.

"The firefighting process continued until the fire was brought under control. Allegedly, the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in one of the houses," he explained.
