Jakarta Evaluates Handling of Suckerfish Catch

Jakarta Vice Governor, Rano Karno emphasized that the Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to catch suckerfish catfish.

we will coordinate later

The Jakarta Provincial Government will evaluate the handling of the catch, taking into account the recommendations from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to avoid burying the fish alive.

Suckermouth Catfish Catch in Jakarta Hits 6.98 Tons

"The Governor also said we will coordinate later. Perhaps many of the fish were still alive during the burial yesterday. We may have missed something, and we'll fix it later," said Rano, Tuesday (4/21).

According to Rano, the active catching of suckerfish in several rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and canals in Jakarta is due to their negative impacts on the environment and health. Rano admitted that the catch, which reached tons, was quite surprising, exceeding his expectations.

Therefore, Rano stated that he would explore several options for processing the catch to maximize its benefits. He cited the processing of suckerfish caught in Brazil, which are being used to make charcoal.

Rano also shared this example with the Jakarta Environmental Agency for input. As a temporary measure, Rano stated that the fish caught by officers will be killed before being buried.

"But actually the technology used by Brazil can be processed and can even be used as a material like charcoal," he stated.
