Jakarta Newcomers Mostly in Productive Age

The Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency (Dukcapil) has recorded 7,911 new arrivals following the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

More than 57 percent of the newcomers are of productive age

The data collection process took place from March 25 to the end of April 2026 through public outreach and proactive on-site registration services across all administrative cities and the Seribu Islands Administrative Regency.

Jakarta Dukcapil Agency Head, Denny Wahyu Haryanto stated that the data is dynamic and will be continuously updated as the registration process proceeds until the end of April 2026.

He noted that Jakarta, as Indonesia’s economic hub, remains a major draw for residents from other regions who arrive after the Eid holiday to seek employment.

"Based on the collected data, more than 57 percent of the newcomers are of productive age, specifically between 20 and 39 years old," he expressed, Wednesday (4/22).

He ensured that the Jakarta government would refrain from conducting identity raids, following the instructions of Governor Pramono Anung.

His agency is implementing a humane approach through coordination with mayors, regents, and local administrative heads at various levels. These activities involve information dissemination and mobile registration services for newcomers in residential zones and all Dukcapil offices in Jakarta.

He urged residents staying only temporarily in Jakarta to register as non-permanent residents at sub-district service counters or the local Dukcapil sub-department office based on their domicile.

"For those with time constraints, non-permanent resident registration can also be completed through the Digital Population Identity (IKD) application," he explained.

Denny noted that population registration serves as a vital tool for crafting socio-economic development policies. This data-driven approach allows the government to formulate strategies, establish priorities, and ensure adequate infrastructure support—including public transport, health services, and education.

"The Jakarta administration expects post-Eid urbanization to be more controlled, ensuring that the influx of new residents contributes positively to the city’s economic growth," he concluded.

Notably, residents can monitor newcomer data in their respective areas via the official Jakarta Dukcapil website at https://kependudukancapil.jakarta.go.id under the ‘Pendatang Pasca Lebaran’ (Post-Eid Newcomers) menu.

Newcomers in Jakarta are encouraged to manage their residency administration at Dukcapil service counters at urban village, sub-district or administrative city/regency levels. All of these services are free of charge.

Further, Dukcapil provides an additional service known as SaPa (Sabtu Pelayanan Adminduk or Saturday Administration Service) on the third Saturday of every month at all Dukcapil service points.

For further information, the public can visit official information channels, follow the official social media account @dukcapiljakarta, contact the WhatsApp service “WA DJawara” at 0812-120-120-31, or call the center at 1500-031.

Previously, public outreach for the post-Eid registration at the administrative city level was held simultaneously on April 20, 2026, across five Jakarta regions: the Kemayoran Sub-district office hall (Central Jakarta); RW 06 secretariat office in West Pademangan, Pademangan (North Jakarta); RW 11 secretariat office in Petukangan Utara, Pesanggrahan (South Jakarta); RT 02/01 secretariat office in Palmerah (West Jakarta); and Pondok Kelapa Urban Village hall, Duren Sawit (East Jakarta).
