81 Locations Targeted for Greening in North Jakarta

The North Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-agency keeps intensifying its revitalization and greening programs for urban parks and green belts across six sub-districts. The project is targeted to reach 81 locations by 2026.

To support both aesthetic and ecological functions

North Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-agency Head, Reina Camelia stated that the program is part of the government's efforts to enhance urban environmental quality while expanding green open spaces (RTH) for the public.

"The revitalization and greening efforts do not only focus on improving city aesthetics but also on enhancing air quality and providing healthy, comfortable spaces for social interaction among residents," she expressed, Tuesday (5/5).

North Jakarta Ramps Up Greening Efforts This Year

She explained that several large-scale locations have become revitalization priorities, including Sunter Selatan Lake Park (39,035 square meters), Cincin City Forest Reservoir (61,670 square meters), and Pluit Park Reservoir, which covers 82,763 square meters.

"We're applying a plant diversification concept to support both aesthetic and ecological functions. The species being planted include giant spider lilies, ruellia, cordyline (hanjuang), pencil cactus (patah tulang hijau), and curly cordyline, which are placed at strategic points," she explained.

She added that the revitalization concept for each Sub-district is tailored to the character of the area. In Tanjung Priok, the focus is on large parks and strategic green belts. In Penjaringan, the emphasis is on reservoir areas and residential environments.

Meanwhile, in Cilincing and Koja, efforts are directed toward optimizing neighborhood parks, while in Kelapa Gading and Pademangan, the focus is on road medians and interactive parks.

"Hopefully, these well-maintained parks and green belts will encourage social interaction and stimulate the local economy, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the surrounding areas," she remarked.

To ensure the program runs optimally, the North Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-agency will deploy hundreds of personnel across all locations.

"Each greening site will be managed by five to ten maintenance workers tasked with ensuring the plants grow optimally," she noted.

She further mentioned that regular supervision is conducted, covering the quality of planting, area cleanliness, plant health, and the overall progress of the revitalization on the ground.

"Hope these efforts will provide broad benefits to the community, especially in improving air quality and creating a healthier environment," she concluded.
