Jakarta BBPOM Raids Cosmetic Shop Over Illegal Prescription Drug Sales

The Jakarta Center for Food and Drug Monitoring (BBPOM), in collaboration with Jakarta Metro Police personnel, has taken action against a cosmetic shop in Ciracas, East Jakarta, for selling prescription-only medicines without a permit.

All illegal products found have been seized

In a press release on Saturday (5/9), Jakarta BBPOM Head, Sofiyani Chandrawati Anwar, revealed that the operation was conducted last Wednesday (5/6) as part of an effort to ensure the circulation of safe and high-quality food and drugs in accordance with regulations.

"Cosmetic shops and other retail outlets are prohibited from selling prescription drugs or any other products that do not possess a distribution permit from the BPOM," she stated.

She explained that during the operation, officers discovered 72 types of prescription drugs, one expired medication, and 14 types of cosmetics and natural medicines (OBA) that lacked distribution permits and had been included in public warning lists.

“As an administrative sanction and a measure for consumer protection, all illegal products found have been seized and will subsequently be destroyed,” added Sofiyani.

She also urged the public to remain vigilant and be "smart consumers" by performing the "Cek KLIK" (Check Packaging, Label, Distribution Permit, and Expiration Date) before purchasing or consuming any food and drug products.
