The East Jakarta City Government continues to strengthen its waste sorting campaign in residential areas. This initiative aims to reduce the volume of waste sent to the Bantar Gebang Landfill.

East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin said that his party is focused on educating the community at the RT/RW, village, and housing levels to get used to sorting organic and inorganic waste from the source.
"We focus more on housing, villages, and RT/RW in educating residents to carry out waste sorting programs," he said, Monday (5/11).
Jakarta`s 499th Anniversary and a Waste Sorting Movement LaunchedMunjirin explained that limited infrastructure is not a reason to postpone the program. Residents can use different colored plastic bags as a temporary solution while waiting for additional facilities to be provided.
He gave an example, organic waste can be separated using red plastic, while inorganic waste uses black plastic.
"This simple pattern has begun to be implemented in a number of areas as an initial step in building the habit of sorting waste in the community," he added.
Meanwhile, Head of East Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency, Monang Sinaga stated his party has distributed 2,405 trash bins to the public.
"And will continue to be added gradually," he stated.
He added that the program to provide colorful trash bags is also being processed by the Jakarta Environmental Agency and is planned to be realized soon.
"This effort is part of strengthening the waste sorting movement in Jakarta," he admitted.
