Pondok Bambu Fire Survivors Receive Assistance

Aid continues to flow to fire survivors in RT 04/04, Pondok Bambu Urban Village, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta. They are currently taking refuge at a relative's house not far from the scene.

Head of Pondok Bambu Urban Village, Ateng Surahman said aid sent to the fire victims came from the Pondok Bambu Village Community Empowerment Center (LMK), the East Jakarta Red Cross (PMI), the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and the Social Affairs Sub-agency. The aid is currently being stored at a religious study group (Majelis Taklim) not far from the scene.

"We provide direct assistance to victims through local RT and RW administrators," he said, Wednesday (5/20).

He added his party did not set up refugee tents because fire survivors took refuge at relatives' houses not far from the fire location.

Vice Chairman of the Pondok Bambu Urban Village LMK, Heru Irianto Basuki, said that his party provided assistance in the form of six boxes of instant noodles, three boxes of cooking oil and 10 bags of 5 kilogram rice.

"Hopefully this can ease the burden on residents," he hoped.

Meanwhile, from the East Jakarta PMI, the aid distributed was in the form of 28 boxes of ready-to-eat food, three packages of basic necessities, three packages of family kits, three packages of hygiene kits and three pcs of mats.

"The number of people who received assistance was 28 people and the assistance was received by the local chairman," said Agus Bastian, East Jakarta PMI's Public Relation Section Head.
