Jakarta Prepares Sports Centers for 2026 World Cup Public Screenings

Jakarta's Youth and Sports (Dispora) Head, Andri Yansyah, has designated several sports arenas for 2026 World Cup watch parties. This move is intended to accommodate football fans and foster a sense of togetherness within the community.

Andri mentioned that he has directed all Jakarta sports and youth facility managers to arrange watch party locations for the World Cup.

"We are instructing every sports center to hold public viewings, specifically for Friday and Saturday night matches," he expressed, Wednesday (6/10).

He further explained that public screenings are not merely a leisure activity for those interested in football, but a way to tighten social ties and enhance solidarity among neighbors.

"The aim is for this to be a community gathering that fosters a close-knit atmosphere and promotes social awareness within the neighborhood," he explained.

He added that he is backing Brazil for the World Cup trophy 2026, citing their roster of top players who compete at the highest level for elite European clubs.

Separately, East Jakarta Sports Center Management Unit Head, Dedy Dwi Widodo noted that Pondok Bambu Sports Hall was chosen for public viewings as it is central and easy for the community to reach.

"We’ve designated Pondok Bambu Sports Hall as a World Cup screening site as it sits right in the middle of a residential neighborhood and has plenty of space," he said.

He mentioned that using these sports halls for watch parties is intended to educate the public and raise awareness about the sports facilities provided by the Jakarta government.

"People won't have to travel far or drive their vehicles because the venues are right in their own neighborhoods," he stressed.
