Utan Panjang III Road Channel Dredging Reaches 85 Percent

The normalization of the 419-meter-long channel on Jalan Utan Panjang III RW 05, Kemayoran, which is being carried out by the Central Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency, has now reached 85 percent progress.

Head of Kemayoran SDA Unit, Supriyadi said the normalization process has been carried out by seven task force personnel since last May. Currently, 350 meters of the channel have been normalized, or approximately 85 percent of the total length.

"Normalization is carried out by replacing the channel using a 60 centimeter wide and 1.5 meter high concrete u-ditch," he said.

Supriyadi emphasized that his party is targeting completion of this work by mid-July.

"We hope that normalizing the water channels will be able to overcome flooding when it rains," he added.

Meanwhile, Arsali (35), a local resident, admitted residents have long hoped for the normalization of this channel because the old one was badly damaged and could not accommodate the maximum water volume, which often caused flooding at the location every time it rained.

"Hopefully, after normalization, there will be no more flooding because the channel's capacity will be greater," he admitted.
