Vice Governor Rano Karno Attends Asia Pacific Video Operators Summit 2026

Vice Governor Rano Karno, leading a delegation from the Jakarta government, attended the Asia Pacific Video Operators Summit (APOS) convened in Nusa Dua, Bali, from June 16 to 18.

Jakarta must be prepared, particularly as AI continues to advance

The Jakarta government stands as the sole regional administration in Indonesia granted the exclusive opportunity to participate and collaborate with entertainment, content, and technology industry stakeholders from across the Asia-Pacific region.

Rano’s attendance at APOS 2026 further solidifies the strategy for developing a tech-driven creative economy ecosystem in Jakarta.

On the opening day of the event, he participated in the CEO Forum, which delved into the global advancements of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) industry and its projected trajectory over the next two decades.

The session featured Nick Nash, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Asia Partners—a premier equity firm boasting a market capitalization of USD 23 billion, equivalent to approximately Rp 414 trillion.

According to Nick Nash, emerging markets remain highly promising within the content industry, as the synergy of powerful storytelling and AI technology is projected to be in high demand over the next two decades.

Rano perceives this as a strategic opportunity for Jakarta in its evolution as a global city. Consequently, he emphasized that it is imperative to prepare by adapting both technology and human capital within the AI sector.

"I believe that in the future, Jakarta must be prepared, particularly as AI continues to advance. We certainly do not intend to be mere consumers; we must be active market players. Jakarta needs to cultivate AI-specialized human capital to drive the industry forward. We have our vocational high schools (SMK), and we must begin there," he asserted.

As a cultured global city teeming with creativity, Rano continued, Jakarta has no intention of letting this economic opportunity slip away.

"The integration of AI technology in film is no longer just a future prospect; it is already delivering a tangible economic impact on the global market. Jakarta must and will seize this opportunity," he concluded.
