Betawi Culture Enlivens Jakarta`s 499th Anniversary Celebration in South Jakarta

The South Jakarta Culture Sub-agency is holding various Betawi arts and cultural events to celebrate Jakarta's 499th anniversary. These events also serve as an effort to preserve local culture and empower artists in South Jakarta.

Head of South Jakarta Culture Sub-agency, Encu Suhani said support for the commemoration of Jakarta's 499th anniversary is demonstrated through the holding of various arts and cultural performances, such as traditional dance, lenong, palang pintu, and various other cultural attractions.

"This activity is also carried out to empower art studios and cultural arts practitioners in South Jakarta," he said, Monday (6/22).

Suhani explained that the series of arts and cultural activities are held in almost all areas of South Jakarta, with themes adapted to the characteristics and needs of each region.

According to him, a number of activities have been and will be held as part of the series of celebrations for Jakarta's 499th anniversary, including the 5th Petukangan Cultural Village Festival, the Kebon Baru Festival, and the Setu Babakan Arts and Culture Festival.

Furthermore, the public can watch the Jatayu Festival Volume 2 of the Kebayoran Lama Selatan Creative Stage, the 2nd Mikul Buah Festival which is combined with the recording of the Original Indonesian Record (ORI) through the Mikul Buah Parade involving 500 participants.

"There is also the Jagakarsa Gambang Kromong Festival which will take place on June 27-28, 2026," he explained.

He stated that the entire series of activities are not only a means of entertainment, but are also expected to strengthen community togetherness and foster a sense of love for Jakarta, which this year is entering its 499th year.
