City Council Holds a Plenary Session to Commemorate Jakarta Anniversary

Jakarta City Council Chairman Suhud Alynudin led a plenary session commemorating Jakarta's 499th anniversary at the City Council Building, Monday (6/22). The meeting marked the culmination of the capital's anniversary celebrations.

In his remarks, Suhud conveyed his birthday wishes to all Jakarta residents. He encouraged the public to use Jakarta's 499th anniversary as a momentum to strengthen the city's identity as a cultured, just, and globally competitive city.

According to Suhud, Jakarta's long journey, from the Sunda Kelapa era to Jayakarta, Batavia, and finally Jakarta, has shaped the city's character as resilient, open, and dynamic. Approaching its fifth century, Jakarta continues to develop as a center of government, economy, culture, and national progress.

The Jakarta City Council also appreciated the various development achievements that have been achieved by the Jakarta Provincial Government, including the development of increasingly modern and integrated infrastructure, the development of public transportation, and the arrangement of urban areas that are more humane and oriented towards the comfort of residents.

In addition, Suhud assessed that improving the quality of public services, digitalization of services, budget transparency, and community involvement in the development planning process have encouraged the realization of more responsive and accountable governance.

"Entering its 499th year, these achievements should be the foundation for taking more visionary and sustainable steps," he added.

Suhud continued that the Jakarta City Council will continue to oversee development policies to ensure they support the interests of the community, strengthen Jakarta's global competitiveness, and maintain the city's inclusive and cultural identity.

In the plenary meeting, the Jakarta City Council also expressed its appreciation for the Jakarta Provincial Government for once again receiving an Unqualified Opinion (WTP) from the Indonesian Audit Board (BPK) for the ninth consecutive time.

According to Suhud, this achievement is concrete evidence of the Jakarta Provincial Government's commitment to realizing transparent and accountable regional financial governance.

"With a strong historical foundation, superior human resources, and a shared determination to continue moving forward, we are optimistic that Jakarta will be able to enter a new era as a comfortable, prosperous, cultured, and world-class city," he stated.

The plenary session was also attended by representatives of the Minister of Home Affairs, the Jakarta Governor and Vice Governor, members of the DPR and DPD from Jakarta, and various elements of society.
