The South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) is optimizing flood prevention along Jalan Ragunan Raya, Pasar Minggu. This is being achieved through intensive drainage cleaning and various technical measures to ensure smooth water flow.
This location had previously experienced flooding
Pasar Minggu Sub-district SDA Executing Unit Head, Rosi Surya Indah stated that the drainage cleaning was conducted to mitigate flooding in the area.
"This location had previously experienced flooding. The water, which should flow into the Pulo Connecting Channel across from the Pasar Minggu Sub-district Office, was obstructed by the foundation of a privately-owned telecommunications tower," she expressed, Tuesday (6/30).
Drainage Revitalization on Jalan Haji Deris Aimed at Flood PreventionTaking a proactive stand, workers desilted a 200-meter channel to remove mud and trash buildup. They also upgraded the infrastructure by swapping heavy concrete covers for iron grates.
"We have teams on high alert during rainfall, but switching to iron grates ensures water flows into the system faster and makes cleaning much easier," she remarked.
To address the obstructing telecommunications tower foundation, her team is collaborating with related departments for a swift solution.
"We have synchronized on this matter and reviewed it at a city leadership meeting. The next steps will be taken based on the consensus reached during those talks," she explained.
Rosi is confident that ramping up routine channel maintenance will keep the area flood-free as the monsoon approaches.
"It’s a collective effort; we appeal to residents to stop littering in the drainage channels so we can keep the water moving freely," she emphasized.
Such projects received appreciation from one of the locals, Ahmad Setiawan.
"We hope the flooding can be fully addressed so that residents' daily activities remain uninterrupted," he hoped.
