The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub), through its School Transport Management Unit (UPAS), has dispatched 235 free school buses for the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.
We want day one to be safe, smooth, and punctual for every student
The service officially kicked off with a flag-off ceremony led by the Transportation Agency Head, Budi Awaluddin, at the UPAS office in Ciracas, East Jakarta, at 4:30 AM sharp. This entire fleet is now hitting 50 different routes across all of Jakarta to make sure students get to class on time.
Budi Awaluddin noted that the first day of school always brings a major spike in traffic. To stay ahead of the game, his team has ensured that the entire school bus fleet is 100% ready. Plus, personnel are stationed at key traffic hotspots to keep things moving—making sure students arrive safely and on time.
The Launch of 32 Disability-Friendly School Buses Appreciated"We want day one to be safe, smooth, and punctual for every student. Dishub is here for Jakarta and its people," he emphasized, Tuesday (7/14).
He instructed all school bus staff to ensure every fleet is road-ready, strictly on schedule, and offers friendly service to every student.
"Safety comes first, no exceptions. From routine maintenance to following the rules of the road, we’re making sure every trip is secure," he added.
Inclusivity is a priority. Jakarta’s School Transport Unit (UPAS) has deployed specialized buses for students with disabilities across the city.
The fleet is equipped with modern facilities like wheelchair lifts and specialized seating zones to ensure a smooth ride. More importantly, the bus crews have undergone training to handle inclusive needs with care.
"Our goal is to make transportation easy and accessible for all. It’s our way of ensuring Dishub stays present and impactful for every Jakartan," he stated.
