Trash Piles Along Pasar Minggu Railway Tracks Cleared

The South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency responded swiftly to clear and transport piles of garbage lining the railway tracks near Pasar Minggu Station.

People habitually come back to dump their trash here

South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency Head, Rizky Febriyanto stated that the waste is discarded not only by locals but also by commuters from other areas.

"We conduct daily clean-ups to prevent accumulation. However, as soon as the site is cleared, irresponsible individuals continue to dump trash illegally, creating a never-ending cycle," he expressed, Monday (7/27).

He emphasized that maintaining environmental hygiene is a collective duty, not just the government’s responsibility. One of the simplest ways the public can contribute is by not littering.

"As a follow-up measure, we will ramp up monitoring at the site in collaboration with relevant authorities," he explained.

He added that public education will be intensified, alongside strict law enforcement against illegal dumpers in accordance with existing regulations.

Residents are urged to dispose of their waste at designated times and locations and to utilize available waste management services.

"We also encourage them (residents) to adopt a culture of sorting and managing waste at the source to create a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment," he explained.

Meanwhile, a local resident named Titin noted that garbage at the temporary disposal site is routinely hauled away by trucks every day. However, the piles keep reappearing as many people continue to dump their waste at the location.

"From noon until night, and even into the following morning, people habitually come back to dump their trash here," she explained.

According to Titin, the real problem lies with 'outsiders' who use the area as a personal dump.

"With so many people from outside the neighborhood littering here, the site reaches capacity almost as soon as it's been cleared," she explained.
