Rano Karno Hopes Penjaringan Inspires a Citywide Quranic Movement

Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno expressed his hope that the Penjaringan Flats in North Jakarta will serve as a pilot project, inspiring the birth of more 'Kampung Al-Qur'an' (Quranic Village) throughout the city.

This is part of our journey to transform Jakarta into a competitive global city

He emphasized that the city is committed to supporting grassroots initiatives, particularly programs led by the LPTQ and other stakeholders. These efforts aim to strengthen Islamic values and foster a harmonious society with noble character.

"We deeply appreciate the collaboration between the Housing Department (UPRS IV) and the North Jakarta LPTQ in making this Kampung Qur'an a reality," he stated, during the inauguration, Friday (7/31).

Rano emphasized that the Kampung Qu'ran in Penjaringan is more than just a center for reading and memorizing the holy verses. It is a dedicated effort to create a safe and nurturing environment where residents can truly live out Quranic values in their daily lives.

"This is part of our journey to transform Jakarta into a competitive global city—one that thrives on the world stage while keeping the spiritual well-being of its people as a top priority," he explained.

He went on to say that the city remains committed to building a society rooted in character, a culture of tolerance, and strong spiritual foundations through continuous religious education and social empowerment.

North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat explained that the 'Kampung Qur'an' at Penjaringan Flats was sparked by an initiative from the North Jakarta LPTQ. The aim was to channel the community's enthusiasm for studying, understanding, and living by Quranic values.

This led to the vision of transforming Penjaringan Flats into a center for Quranic development, open to everyone—from children and teenagers to adults.

"A vibrant and healthy ecosystem for Quranic learning has truly taken root here in Penjaringan," he explained.

He added that Penjaringan Flats is already home to a vibrant spiritual community, including the FCA Education Foundation's Quran Center with approximately 400 students, various Quranic Learning Centers (TPA), and active religious study groups.

"Through our systematic and tiered coaching programs, we aim to produce world-class talent—from masterful reciters (qari/qariah) to Quranic memorizers (hafiz/hafizah) and scholars (mufasir). We want them to bring glory to North Jakarta on both national and international stages," Hendra concluded.
